Whitney grew up in Indianola, Iowa. After graduating from Indianola High School, she attended Manhattan College in New York where she played on the school’s Division I volleyball team. Although she probably did not appreciate it at the time, Whitney believes that juggling school, sports, and work throughout high school and college prepared her for life as an attorney, wife, and mother.

As a young child, Whitney often accompanied her mother, who was a paralegal at a law firm, to work on the weekend. From those experiences, she assumed she knew what being a lawyer was all about and, at nine years old, knew she wanted to be a lawyer who helped people. That meant there was no question in Whitney’s mind that the next stop after college was law school. While attending Drake University Law School, Whitney was the treasurer of the Drake Law chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union in 2008 and 2009.

Since law school, Whitney has had the incredible fortune to be what she always wanted to be: a lawyer who helps people. She has helped clients who have been discriminated against, harassed, retaliated against, and wrongfully fired by their employers find justice. Whitney understands that a job is more than just a paycheck and that being harassed, treated differently, or illegally fired impacts all aspects of her clients’ lives. She has found much success in using that understanding in her pursuit of justice on her clients’ behalf. Whitney has been recognized by her peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America.

Whitney is proud to serve on the Board of Directors for the Beacon of Life in Des Moines. In her free time, Whitney loves to find new activities to try with her husband and young daughters. She delights in traveling the U.S. and the world–she has visited 49 of the 50 states (someday, Oregon!) and 5 of the 7 continents.
